Start with the defaults
Every profile gets five shelves the first time it’s used: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Biography, and To Read. Rename, recolor, or delete any of them.
Add books to a shelf
From a book’s menu, toggle it onto one or more shelves.
Browse a shelf
Open it from the sidebar to see just the books on it.
How shelves work
- Shelves are per-profile — two profiles on the same install never share a shelf, even if they name one the same thing
- A book can be on any number of shelves at once
- Adding a book to a shelf it’s already on is a no-op, so there’s no need to check before toggling it
- Create as many additional shelves as you want, each with its own name and color
Smart Shelves
Above your own shelves, the sidebar lists four Smart Shelves: Unread, Currently Reading, Finished, and 5-Star. These aren’t real shelves — they’re computed on the fly from your existing ratings and reading progress, so there’s nothing to set up and nothing extra stored:
- Unread — books with no reading progress yet
- Currently Reading — books with progress that aren’t finished
- Finished — books marked read
- 5-Star — books you’ve rated 5 stars
Because they’re computed, Smart Shelves can’t be renamed, recolored, or deleted, and you can’t drag a book onto one — a book lands on a Smart Shelf automatically based on its reading state. Everything else about browsing one is the same as a regular shelf.
